I could see updating static images, but when I tried to stream the video I would see a message about the cameras not responding. I've been having problems with streaming homekit video on my mini for about a week.

I also have an M1 MacBook Pro which was streaming video fine. Additionally, I had Big Sur devices (intel) and iOS devices that had no problems with streaming homekit video. I have an M1 Mac Mini which would not stream homekit video via the Home app, but could stream homekit video with the HomeCam app. I had the exact same problem and I managed to inadvertently resolve it while solving a different problem. There is no disk formatting instruction for the Apple Silicon processors so I first will go back to the support of Apple.

The support employee said that it would be possible that I had to first erase my hard drive before a good clean install so I also looked at the disk utility program in the reboot menu but the instruction for hard disk formatting explicitly shows that the proces is only for intel processors. It seems even that the recovery itself is no good, because it gave a lot of errors in the log (even fatal). As I only have this Mac Mini M1 for a couple of days, I did not mind that, so I performed a recovery but this did not help. The M1 Mac Mini is able to see the static photo coming from the Homkit camera, but is unable to see the video, reporting (incorrectly) that the camera's not responding. I've tried logging out and back in to my iCloud account. And I'm getting some data from the camera. So this proves that the connection, "physically," is fine. It's only failing when I try to double click on the image to watch the live video stream. In fact, the camera is indeed communicating with the M1 Mac Mini, which is proven because when I launch Home, the static image that comes from the camera is available. Why can't an M1 Mac see the video? Is this a known problem? The camera is not responding." But the device currently works with my Intel iMac and with all my iOS devices. My new M1 Mac Mini can't view the live video of any HomeKit camera.
